And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
We had that same truck in the Extra Cab version. Great 4x4. Best engine Toyota ever built. Used to have mechanics wanting to buy it when we'd take it in for service.
sold my 89 4runner inside of 2 days. guy drove across 2 states to get it. he already had a 88 or 87 4runner and was going to rebuild it for his kid until he drove it and said I am keeping this one and the kid can have my old one ! I rebuilt that engine 9 years ago, 040 over pistons, better cam shaft and stronger clutch. yes, a 22re engine, 5 speed. locking hubs. it was a great little truck. NEVER got stuck anywhere in it. and drove that snow storm back in the 1990's where it was 3 feet dumped on us. K&N air cleaner and free flow stainless pipes, upgraded springs to round it out. used to hold 80 mph on the highway with ease.
I'd love to know how many miles your rig had on it when you rebuilt the engine nine years ago, and how many miles you put on since, before you sold it. In other words, total mileage on that great, dependable little engine under your ownership.
I bought it used with about 100k on it. did the rebuild around 150 or so had to replace the clutch, so I figured while I had the engine out. I do a rebuild for more bottom end power. got the parts from L.C. and the new and better cam from them as well. also put in a extra gas tank by northwest off road. another 15 gallons or so. put another 10 years and 100 k on it before selling it. I was pushing 70 and the clutch was killing my hip and knee to drive it, so it sat for 2 years before I sold it. last I heard or email from the guy who bought it , he loved it and was replacing all the hoses and brake lines as well as putting a canvas top on it instead of the fiberglass cap it came with. my brother still owns 2 4runner and a 87 pickup still. but then he a bit younger than me.
funny part. but a ARB bumper on it with a Warn winch. NEVER needed it to get out of anything. although I did help out a few other people. after I moved up here in the hills, I had to hide the truck behind the house or people who come knocking on the door asking me to pill them out of whatever mess they got into. that part got old fast as the most I ever got was a half assed "thanks" for my time and gas. after the second clown, I started telling them to call a tow truck and leave me alone. there is a lot of off roaders around here with little to no sense on how to travel off road. it almost like they trying to see if they can make it or get stuck. kind of stupid really.

ReplyDeleteA 22R engine, a five speed and locking hubs. Three things that should never have gone away.

Giddy around the fire while hearing the surf build all night. What will the morning bring?
ReplyDelete"your car's on fire."
ReplyDelete"oh."
"so how's the surf up here?"
