    1. They use it to dig up the bottom foraging for food. They also will slash into a school of bait fish to stun them and pick up the injured ones.

      They're locals here (central Florida) and are protected species. There are warning signs around some of the boat ramps saying to release it if you hook one.

    2. When I was a kid, I landed on while fishing in Tampa Bay. I threw it back. I don't remember if cutting the line or trying to get the hook back.

      I've seen 'em while swimming the NC Outer Banks.
