Friday Open Road

  1. That old forr door Chevy sliding into the camera reminded me of the Chevy Show at Six Flags in Dallas. We watched it on the big screen they had back in 79-80. The newish Citation was doing 360's on a skid pad. First time I'd seen anything quite like that. I never did that kind of driving. Our dirt roads were mostly flat and straight, so we practiced sprint car / flat track stuff. The few banked roads were a hoot, too. Exuberance of youth.

    1. I live just up the road from that old bridge - they used that in one of the Terminator movies - also Hog Wild - it is quite the gorge to see in all the different seasons.

  2. Like the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge picture! Saw it last year. Driving to it, one does not get any impression of the grandeur awaiting until you are actually on it and then 'Wow'.

    1. My grandpa had one that had no 2nd gear. Driving in the mountains you had to go from 3rd to 1st.

  9. The desert camping scene with the orange and blue tents looks just like the Anza Borrego desert in S. California east of San Diego. You drive up a long wash of sand until you reach the exit of a canyon and camp there. Great place to see the entire Milky Way...so dark. But actually enough star light to be able to see...simply amazing. Were camped in a place just like that when it started to rain. Thankfully we got our tent into the back of the truck and out of there before the canyon filled with rain water and poured out into the wash. The only thing I truly miss about S. Calif. (other than the Pacific Ocean).
