And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Ever dial the number to your childhood home and see who answers?
My family number in the mid-50's in NJ when there were only 2 area codes: (201) Diamond-3-1201. Anyone want to give it a try? Let me know who answers. If it's Helen you've found the Time portal.
Years ago, I pulled one of these old-style dial telephones out of a box, and my kids looked at me like I'd discovered a new dinosaur bone or something.
OK. Maybe I'm the dinosaur. I'll let myself out now.
I still remember my grandmas and she's been gone for 20 years. Still remember some address and zip codes but can't remember if I fed the cat and changed her water.
I had a gig in a tech center in the early '90s where the entry code to get on the floor was 3-1239. Took me 2 months to realize that it sounded so familiar because that was my mother's phone number in the '50s.
The number for my aunt's house has not changed since I have been alive, nearly 50 years with the exception of an area code change that was out of her control.
Th5-5769. Th was for thornwall. I was 5 or 6. '64 or '65. Saw a video of someone telling their teenage kids to call grandma on a dial phone. It was pretty funny.
Jenny… but only for a good time…
ReplyDeleteThat's no way to talk about your mother!
