    1. I keep AA & AAAs around, I buy them in big packs so I picked up some AA to D cell converters (the type that uses 3 AAs) for my big Maglite (I bought an LED bulb for it too).... the only D cell thing I still had.

  2. Heavy (D-cells) and built to look like something else, that was originally designed for purpose. Making this, something that is not designed for purpose.

  3. the thing about all batteries, they get thrown away when they're wasted. magically it's all o.k. with them "green" nutcases.

  4. first look I thought "ignition". After reading "D cells, it was "abort launch". Thanks Rob for the tip about a "D-cell to AAA" converter. Wasn't aware of such a gizmo. You should hit up Coleman for a commission!

    1. If you go that route make sure the adapter you get needs three AA batts and not just one...

  5. What kind of a faggy lantern is that?

  6. No. No. No.

White gas. Mantles. A few pumps to pressurize the tank, and a Strike-Anywhere match. That's all you need.

Yeah, I get it. "But what about muh Global Warming? What about all that carbon in the atmosphere?" Get over yourselves. The energy that gets into those batteries comes from carbon too, you ninnies.

There are tons of other (frankly, better) LED lanterns out there. If that's what you want, then get one. But pretending that you've got a Coleman single mantle lantern isn't fooling anyone.

    1. Mantles can be a real pain in the rear, but yeah - kerosene lantern FTW

  7. I bought an original coleman kerosene lantern at an antique shop a few years ago.
I've never seen another one. It is chrome with a round globe. Anyone know if they
are rare or were common at one time?

  8. I have to at my shack. The were cheap and you don't have to worry about burning the place down when you sleep.

  9. Had one for years, eats batteries and takes up too much room, left it at Goodwill a long time ago.
