  1. In 1953, Jackie Cochran set a world speed record of 652.55 mph in a Canadair Sabre powered by an Orenda 3, so I guess the engine was as advertised.

  3. The Orenda engined Sabre produced over 7,200lbs of thrust compared to the F86A's 5,200lbs of thrust from it's GE engine. With almost 38% more power, a larger slatted wing and a flying stabilizer the Canadair Mk6 Sabre was the best version made.

  4. AVRO always to be remembered as builder of the Lancaster bomber and other aircraft.

  5. What is most remembered was the AVRO Arrow a delta winged twin engine Mach 2 fighter interceptor that was cancelled after demonstrating its abilities by a stupid government demonstrating its inability to imagine success. They cancelled the program on a Friday afternoon in 1959 and the company laid off everyone. The effect was to decimate the Canadian aircraft industry.

  6. There were a lot of conspiracy theories about its cancellation. One was that the US CIA was concerned that the U2 program would be exposed.
