And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
She was badly burned in the WoO scene where she swirls her broom and disappears in a cloud of smoke. The gag used pyrotechnics to create sparks and her hand, covered in a copper based green makeup was burned so badly the docs wanted to send her to hospital. But she had to keep going as there were few actors rights at the time.
I saw her on stage in a play in LA once. I was amazed at how small she was. No one that scary should can be less than seven feet tall. (And no, I did not watch the entire Wizard of Oz while hiding behind the couch)
I visited the Oz Museum located in Wamego, Kansas. Room after room, totally devoted to everything about the movie (lots of genuine set pieces, etc.). One panel is all about her. Very interesting.
a truly iconic actress. it's amazing how many people almost automatically know who she is even when not in the character make-up that has made her so well recognized. wish i had a nickel for every time i've heard any of her lines from the W.O.Z.
And your little dog, too!
