Big Eucalyptus down in the road near my old stomping grounds (very rural eastern side of the Sacramento Valley between Elk Grove and Stockton). Probably planted in the early 1900's.

  1. I bet it would take over 30 pueblo colorado winters to burn that much wood for heat here in my house. But I'd save over 30,000$ in gas bills over that period.

  2. Hard to split and creates mucho creosote. But yeah, an enormous amount of firewood!

Eucalyptus are notorious for shedding limbs in high winds.

    1. And extreme flammability. Just ask the folks who survived the Oakland Hills fire in '91.
      Euchs are bad news.

    1. I wonder if those trees still line that road. It seemed like every 5 years or so one would come down and kill somebody.

  4. --heard they were imported from The Oz for the purpose of making railroad ties-(ever heard of Rancho Santa Fe-in northern San Diego County? it 'bout burned up 15-20 years back). No good for ties-splits too easily---the saga continues---

    1. They were imported for lumber. Of the 70+ variaties of uke they brought the wrong one. Took decades before they realized it.
