  1. I'm there behind you (far, far in line behind you) just waiting to purchase my ticket

  2. Bringing new meaning to “range anxiety”

  3. Wondering if it might be more efficient to feather the front propellers and use the rear ones as pushers for level flight. Suggest a fixed configuration with just the rear motors.

  4. Your ticket guarantees the airline will get you all the way to the scene of the crash.

  5. How many intelligent people are willing to actually fly on such a contraption. Of course we know there is no shortage of brain donors in society who wouldn't have a problem with it.....right up until the batteries die midflight.

  6. Ah, all the inherent dangers of an electric car but in an aerospace environment. No. NOOO. Just NOOOOOOOO.

Planes can be refueled and reflown in minutes. Fuel vs Cargo can be modified for range or carrying ability. You can even add drop tanks to many planes, or conformal external tanks or internal tanks to add range.

With batteries? Nope. You take off with same weight of 'fuel' every time, and land with 'spent fuel' weighing the same as 'fuel.' No ability to adjust 'fuel' weight for economizing or anything.

One of the really nice things for a carbon-fueled vehicle is the ability to burn off or dump excess fuel weight in order to make an emergency landing safer. And the burning of fuel actually improves the performance of the vehicle.

Batteries are so energy inefficient in comparison to fuel engines that it's ridiculous.

Yet people are pushing this crap and garbage like it's a good idea.

  8. Most people, it seems, automatically jump to the "either/or" phase and then kick the daylights out of it. Nobody is complaining for a combustion engine powered starter motor on their car. I say, as long as they aren't using stolen money, develope away!

    1. Well, if you're going to be all reasonable and such.

But the weight issue mentioned above seems to be the deal killer.

  9. Just enough charge to get you to the crash site.

  10. I quoted this somewhere the other day, so if it was here I'm sorry but Robert Heinlein said, "When railroading time comes, you can railroad. But not before." It ain't time to go battery flying. (I've seen other versions of the quote, but they all say it's from "The Door Into Summer". I need to read it again for the nth time.)

  11. They'll be lucky to deploy six aircraft that are still working by 2030.

  12. Coal powered aircraft, what will they think of next!
