And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I guess that's true. I was just thinking about an F-86 Driver and Korean war vet I once knew who got shot down and spent some time as a guest of the DPRK.
The predecessor to the F-100 Super Sabre. I have a cousin that flew the F-100 in the AF and got out to fly it in the Air Guard till they retired them in the late 70's.
the "Dog Nose" variant of the F-86 was the "D" model. Other than being designated an "86", it shared little commonality with the Sabre jet of Mig Alley fame. Downright uglee, the "D" model ruined one of the (pick your number!) all time classic aircraft. If I recall correctly, the F-100 "Super Sabre" was the first aircraft to break the sound barrier in level flight. It took some time, but I finally succumbed to the charms of the "Hun".
As a kid that was the plane I drew along with my stick figure people... I may have a couple of drawings left around here..My mom saved all my early "art-work."

DeleteHorrible fuel hog.
ReplyDeleteTrue. This one is shown without those enormous drop tanks.
DeleteReally love this jet. Fuel hog and all. It did the job it was asked to do. Yes there were bugs, but in the end it handed the commies their asses!
ReplyDeleteAs always, it was the quality, experience, and training of the pilots that established the F-86 as the premier MIG 15 killer of the Korean war.
Delete"SIGH"; further expression fails me
