And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Alpine shelter on Monte Cristallo, Auronzo di Cadore - Italy (World War 1, 1915/18), located at 2760 meters.
That would be a cold and lonely place to fight a war from
Not knowing anything about the place, I'd guess it was more of a lookout or forward observer type place more than a fighting place. The wind in and around the valley alone would make marksmanship almost impossible.
Guess you’d tie off before doing that roof job...geez, talk about exposure. But very cool.
ReplyDeleteI doubt anyone will fight you for a parking spot.
ReplyDelete"A Soldier of the Great War", Mark Helprin- has a fictional account of the fighting in the Italian Alps- a great book, BTW.
ReplyDeleteYes, I thought of that story too when I saw this.
DeleteBeat me to it. Great book.
DeleteWow! No heat in THAT outpost!
ReplyDeleteIf you can't stand your neighbors, it's the house for uou.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it's now an Airbnb?
ReplyDeleteHow the heck do you even get there? Is there a trail? I can't make one out. I bet that's where you go sent when you pissed off the commander.
ReplyDeleteHow do you build it?
DeleteThere is a Via Ferrata climbing route that takes you just past this.

It's an easy climb, despite the images depicting otherwise.
I’d like to spend a couple of weeks there just to chill!

ReplyDeleteCold AND lonely?
ReplyDeleteSounds perfect.
Great place to avoid a fight.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the Wi-Fi like and do they have a big plasma inside.
