Yellow Headlights?

  1. Not enough viepable to tell for sure, but 24 hour races often have different classes that have different color headlights so the other racers know who is faster and who is slower behind them.

    Just a guess

    1. Your guess is correct. At LeMans the Prototype class has white headlights and the production based class has yellow headlights. A production based racer is not allowed to impede a prototype racer since they're not racing in the same class. In France the headlights had to be yellow for a car to be road legal (until EU regulations overrode the French law) and the production class (GT, GTE, Class 4, Class C depending on the era) must be road legal.

  2. Thanks for the explanation. Are these races still being held?

  3. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is still held every June, except this year. Because of the Chinese Communist Party Virus it has been postponed to August.

Yellow light improves contrast and you can see better in foggy, rain, or twilight conditions. In the great golden era of sports cars (1960s) fog lamps were often yellow even if the headlights were white.

For the same reason, shooting glasses for indoor competition are often yellow (I use them). I wear my yellow ones when driving in rain or fog. Everything seems brighter as soon as you put them on.
