And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Dedicated Meter Maid, or the act of a Bureaucratic Totalitarian Fascist?
If you're blocking the snow plows from clearing the road, you get a ticket. The fire department will run a fire hose through your windows to get to the hydrant if you've parked next to one, so a ticket by itself isn't that bad if you're on a snow emergency route. Leave it a little longer and they will get around to towing it. I think people that aren't familiar with colder climates just don't think of this kind of thing but there should be signs posted. (They're all over the place in DC, Maryland and Virginia, but if you don't have to be in DC, you shouldn't go there in the first place - on any day.)
I'll take door number two.
ReplyDeleteOr a snow emergency parking ticket?
ReplyDeleteOr meeting the quota?
Delete"They're not 'quotas'. They're 'performance incentives'."
DeletePerhaps it is a ticket for illegal parking on a snow removal day.
ReplyDeleteThat's my guess.

I choose 'C.' Both. A dedicated meter maid who's a bureaucratic ahole.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shopping list left there by his wife, just before he left for work (and she went back to her warm bed.)
