And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
One of the most poignant things I ever heard in 40 years in Aerospace and Aviation was a Former WWII pilot talking about doing exactly this at some point in the post war years and a flight of P-80 Shooting Stars blew right past them. He said he knew it was over. On the other hand, making the engine liquid cooled so the cooling intake can be moved back close to the CG was brilliant. Think maneuverability and look at an F-16 intake.
My first use a a lotto win fortune would be to acquire a P-51, simply to paint one in the current Navy/AF haze grey paint scheme, just to see what it'd look like.

ReplyDeletePluses.....radiator heat expulsion added to thrust
DeleteMinuses....Lots more water piping to get shot-up
Not many planes can do that and still gain speed, a P-51 isn't one of them but then no prop plane is either.
ReplyDeleteThe most beautiful fight of the second world war.
