The Pentagon Has 'Staged' Black Sea B-52 Intercepts As An "Intelligence Trap" For The Russians

 Crafty devils, we are.

While Russian media and the defense ministry hailed the latest successful intercept of three US B-52 bombers over the Black Sea on Friday, which involved no less than eight Russian fighters dispatched, a new report in Forbes says the Pentagon has been using such intercept incidents over Eastern Europe as a "trap" in order to gain valuable flight data on the Russian fighters' advanced sensors and communication equipment:

On Aug. 28, a U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bomber flew through international air space over the Black Sea. Russian air force Su-27 fighters rose to the meet the B-52, zooming so close to the lumbering bomber that the fighters’ twin afterburners rattled the American crew.

American officials objected to the “unnecessary” harassment of their bomber. But the joke was on the Russians. For the B-52 was merely bait in an elaborate, and ongoing, intelligence trap.

The report describes that at the very moment the Russian fighters were coming extremely close to the B-52, even reportedly limiting its movement and coming within a mere 100 feet, two US RC-135 Rivet Joint electronic-intelligence planes were nearby scooping up useful data on the Su-27 aircraft.

    1. ...because there are people, in the armed services, in this country that don't love it or the air force is just plain stupid.

Then there's the story of the U.S. Navy destroyer that had to beat feet back to port a couple years ago. I was sailing in the Black Sea and was overflown by a Russian interceptor that they couldn't see on radar. How'd that one get out there?

    2. The Russkies already know. We've been doing this to each other for the past 75 years.

    3. RIVET JOINT isn't new or unknown to the Russians. If it's in position to collect on them they'll know it's there and will make the choice on whether they want to give up any useful ELINT that might be associated with a new system.

  2. I imagine that they try to do the same thing to us. In regards to that destroyer not picking up the Russian jet I wonder how often that may happen. I think every weapon and radar system can be beat at one time or another. I do remember vaguely something about a Chinese sub popping up in the middle of a carrier battle group once which I think would scare the hell out of the navy. Does anyone know the truth behind that story? I am convinced that China is going to continue pushing and are in a good position where as I think our navy may not be what it once was. Hate to say it but the ongoing LCS and Ford fiascos tell me the navy is not run by enough competent individuals.

    1. 1) Failure is the natural consequence of Affirmative Action as there is no EQUALITY between the SEXES or RACES.

      2) Disparate impact as an operating guide for advancement results in having incompetents in positions of power.

      3) Choosing the manufacturer of a weapons system by Politics assures that the resulting weapons system will be inferior to that that could have been developed.

  3. Will this revelation turn into more "Russian Collusion' fodder for the Schiff impeachment generator?

  4. These guys breathlessly "report" this shit as if it's something new and "unprecedented" and "procovative".

It's SOP and has been going on since the beginning of warfare--- You probe your enemy's defenses and observe the reaction, thus gaining what we call "intelligence".

It was cool to see a picture of one of the old Rivet Joint birds that I spent many, many hours inside, burning holes in the sky, during my tumultuous yute years, though.

  5. Do the "journalists" at Forbes ever wonder why we would fly a B-52 there, perhaps using them to count walruses or something?

  7. Oct 2010: Wayne Madsen: China Fired Missile Seen In Southern California
    Wayne Madsen Report
    November 10, 2010
Pentagon and its embedded media covering up Chinese show of force off LA
China flexed its military muscle Monday evening in the skies west of Los Angeles when a Chinese Navy Jin class ballistic missile nuclear submarine, deployed secretly from its underground home base on the south coast of Hainan island, launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from international waters off the southern California coast. WMR’s intelligence sources in Asia, including Japan, say the belief by the military commands in Asia and the intelligence services is that the Chinese decided to demonstrate to the United States its capabilities on the eve of the G-20 Summit in Seoul and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Tokyo, where President Obama is scheduled to attend during his ten-day trip to Asia.
The reported Chinese missile test off Los Angeles came as a double blow to Obama. The day after the missile firing, China’s leading credit rating agency, Dagong Global Credit Rating, downgraded sovereign debt rating of the United States to A-plus from AA. The missile demonstration coupled with the downgrading of the United States financial grade represents a military and financial show of force by Beijing to Washington.
The Pentagon spin machine, backed by the media reporters who regularly cover the Defense Department, as well as officials of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and the U.S. Northern Command, is now spinning various conspiracy theories, including describing the missile plume videotaped by KCBS news helicopter cameraman Gil Leyvas at around 5:00 pm Pacific Standard Time, during the height of evening rush hour, as the condensation trail from a jet aircraft. Other Pentagon-inspired cover stories are that the missile was actually an amateur rocket or an optical illusion."

** WMR: Israeli involvement in Chinese Missile Launch
    December 6, 2010

Wayne Madsen Reports (WMR) and U.S. intelligence sources suggest hat China was able to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile off the coast of Los Angeles on November 8 thanks to classified U.S. Navy missile and submarine technology stolen by Israeli intelligence agents.

This involved in a top secret National Security Agency (NSA) joint project in the 1980s. Israel subsequently passed the data on to the Chinese in return for lucrative defense contracts for Israeli companies with the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

The Israeli espionage operation was previously reported by WMR: " . . . Veterans of the RCA-NSA-Israeli joint SIGINT program code named DINDI report that Israeli engineer spies used the carve out contract with NSA, through RCA, to gain access to NSA and U.S. Navy secrets.

In an RCA facility in Mount Laurel, NJ, the Israeli engineers had their own secured lab. For three years that DINDI ran, they were walking out with their briefcases loaded with equipment, including scopes.

When RCA engineers finally gained access to their lab, they found the prints laid out for the Trident missile system. RCA had an ongoing contract to develop the Trident communications suite at the time of the security leak."
