In Canada, a 20 year old man is facing charges for sleeping behind the wheel of a Tesla that was doing more than 90 mph.
Both front seats were fully reclined and both the driver and the passenger appeared to be asleep, according to the report. The car was doing about 87mph on a roadway with a posted speed limit of about 68mph.
RCMP Sgt. Darrin Turnbull said: "Nobody was looking out the windshield to see where the car was going. I've been in policing for over 23 years and the majority of that in traffic law enforcement, and I'm speechless. I've never, ever seen anything like this before, but of course the technology wasn't there."
The driver was charged with speeding and had a temporary hold put on his license.
I'm somewhat dubious about this story. Would the auto pilot refuse to go over the speed limit? Any Tesla drivers out there that can clarify?
I'm sure the salesman at the dealership told them that, "the car drives itself."
ReplyDeleteHell, I do the same if it meant a commission on a $120,000 vehicle. I've been told many times I have the scruples of a car salesman and I'm proud of it.
DeleteI wonder how they got it to stop, preform a "Pit Maneuver?"
ReplyDeleteEntered the Police console prefix and took over control remotely.
Delete"We're sending our transmission now".
Set the car for 90 mph and take a nap. WTF are the drugs these people are on? That is massive stupidity.
ReplyDeleteI drive this highway frequently. Posted speed is 110km/h. Most drivers are 20km/h over that. I would never trust a vehicle on this highway on autopilot due to how people drive on it.
ReplyDeletere: car salesmen, they have no scruples because nothing they say means anything after you sign the paperwork (which states that if its not included in the contract, it doesn't matter)
ReplyDeletere: stopping the car, I think an Sega steering wheel would have been a better choice...
This is why I like my non-governMental (emphasis on MENTAL) controlled old vehicles. Replace the points and it still runs after the EMP even if the radio is dead.
