And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I knew a guy who used duct tape as a water barrier for flooring on a concrete slab. When asked if he had installed a water barrier, he answered in the affirmative. His deceit was found out when a minor earthquake damaged a tile floor he had installed. He actually tried to defend his practice in the ensuing law suit. This guy was a flooring contractor.
The problem is not the silly 'repair', nor the installation or the worksmanship. It is not even the ignorance which permits one to think it might work. The exact problem is there are people who either already believe or those who can be fooled into believing it will work.
While this can be used as a metaphor of stupidity, it does nothing to diminish the fact that so great is the number of stupid people that they, en masse, represent a real danger to the Republic.
