  1. Judging from the trees, I'll hazard a guess that was a bunch of cottonwood "down" burning on top of green grass. Idiots walking around in front of the flame path never learned the concept of "staying in the black".

  7. Back burn -- you can see the progress of the burn against the prevailing direction of the wind. A "back burn" burns hotter, more completely. Used in agriculture (fields) and forestry to clear underbrush.
