And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Looks like the one blond is about to shoot the redhead in the face
I remember those magazines as a kid. Always a strong man and a damsel in distress on the cover. Argosy, Mans Life, Mans Book...... whenever I see them in junk shops I buy them! They do have some interesting stories in them for sure!
I remember when I was 12 or so reading a story about a group of Amazon Women who all looked like Madison Ave models in their underwear, hanging a guy upside down from a tree and slicing off his ears.....he talked....I guess water boarding hadn't become a thing yet....
My father, strict Roman Catholic very good man, had a subscription to such a magazine. The covers were lurid. This was in the 50's and early '60's. Mom would put the new mag beside his chair and none of us were allowed near to look it. 2 of my 4 younger brothers were intrigued. Then they stopped coming.
They used to have publications like that in barber shops.
ReplyDeleteIs there something subliminal about the way Little Miss Red Shorts is holding that bazooka round???
ReplyDeleteI thought so.
DeleteI never have blond babes like that around me, especially the shirtless one...
ReplyDeleteSgt. Platnick? What's he a member of the Brooklyn, NY National Guard?
ReplyDeleteThat's the one. He was in Car 54 Where Are You? after getting out of the service.

ReplyDeleteI first read, "PLANET OF THE APES", in one of those magazines, probably "ARGOSY", although there were plenty of others in the same genre.
ReplyDeleteYep, war just as I remember it.

ReplyDeleteI drew a scene like that once. Except it was the gay carrot, not the dumb blonde mis-aiming.
