Valles Marineris: The Grand Canyon of Mars


The grand valley extends over 3,000 kilometers long, spans as much as 600 kilometers across, and delves as much as 8 kilometers deep.

  5. 5 miles deep means the atmosphere at the bottom will be a bit thicker but likely more CO2 than O2. Might be a nice spot for a base with an good elevator to the surface. of the fissure is in the bedrock, glass over a portion and you have your dome protected from radiation.
