And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

I offer Irving FInkel for your Sunday entertainment and edification
I just finished watching the first one and it is quite a fascinating subject along with the progression of the origins of it's translation. I also have to say that this Mr. Finkel is HIGHLY entertaining as a speaker and knows the subject so well that he can easily break it down to the layman's level. The dude is a hoot! Thanks for posting this C.W.!
The accuracy of the length of rope required is astonishing. If you assume a very slightly larger diameter for the rope the ancient and modern numbers are identical..
It means the ancients understood scaling laws AND calculating very large numbers with confidence.
Absolutely amazing and a joy to watch and listen to that man speak. I learned a lot and enjoyed it immensely. We watched both of them and since there are more on youtube we'll watch some more.
