And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

They had a lot of stuff, but their logistics were so messed up that they had airfields of unflyable planes, armor with no engines, boats but no fuel. One reason the focused strongly on their industrial organization and effectiveness with tutors like Demming. Worked well for them, for the most part.
In 1945 they were holding in reserve a hell of a lot of war materiel to defend against an invasion of the home islands.
