The Art of Speed

  1. Gt40 look pretty short from the front. It's surprising how long they look from the side.

  2. I was at the Sebring race in 1966....Dan Gurney had the field covered in a GT 40, but was dq'd for pushing his car when he ran out of gas....it was a tragic day as a driver and 4 spectators were killed in separate incidents....Ford was really into racing in those days and it seemed like half the field were driving the big 427 Gt 40's....Mario Andretti in his Ferrari was involved in the incident at the Webster turn, along with a Porsche, that took out 4 spectators who were in a restricted area....things were different in those days....lack of guardrails and fire equipment were essential as the cause of the carnage....I was 16 at the time....on a humorous note, though not humorous to her, I felt sorry for the girl in the Portolet that was turned over by a bunch of drunk college guys....especially since there was no water available with which to clean up....bottled water wasn't a thing in those days....there was plenty of beer, though....
