And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Had a friend who was an M60 mechanic stationed in Germany when the Fulda Gap was a big deal. He said in the winter the only warm place to nap while on manuevers was on top of the tank engine.
Rule #1: Never sleep on the ground when there are tanks around. Parking brakes don't hold and drivers without ground guides are BLIND to more than you can imagine.
That's probably the driver while a TC and/or gunner are sleeping on the back deck. That's why you need a fourth crewman to pull security and radio watch while the rest of the crew sleeps, eats, pulls maintenance, etc. Russian designed tanks are three man crewed - unless this picture was taken by the tank commander or gunner, I'd say the tank is in the "dark" with little chance of being effectively manned, up and running, and ready to fight any time soon.
Likely in Syria. That Tank is Trashed from Weeks of Hard Fighting in Urban Combat, Fenders torn off and Front all Battered from crashing through Walls and driving over Obstacles and Rubble. Field Marshal Erwin Rommel once said, "A Tank is an Iron Box that contains Courage".
Better then sleeping in it... they are a cramped mother.
ReplyDeleteMy conclusion: Homeless and tanked as well.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the small rectangle boxes hanging all over the front?
ReplyDeleteEarly reactive armor is my guess. Get a "combat nap" whenever you can
Deletewhy, yes, yes it is. BTDT (on both an M-60, and an M-1) sleep and chow...get it while you can, cause you never know whern you will get more.
