Is anything better the brutal power of the F-1 engine of a Saturn V’s first stage?

  1. Yes. The F-1b, a new version of the F-1 that, using CNC and modern printing techniques could put out 50% more power than the original F-1. At a savings of 40% of the weight, and significantly cheaper to produce.

But... instead... we are going with some modified Space Shuttle Main Engines, which are actually just reworked J-2 (2nd and 3rd stage Saturn engines) as the main engines for the SLS.

I want my F-1s... Maybe someday...

  2. well, I would run with the shuttle SRBs even thought they get a bad rap from the Challenger explosion. that's what happens when politicians overrule engineers. and those engines were re-usable unlike the F-1 and F-1b.
