And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

I carry a vintage Barlow for the same reason. I had to check it when I visited my daughter at the hospital. When the guard gave it back he smiled and said" my granddad always had a Barlow knife in his pocket. " Kinda made my day!
ReplyDeletePretty. Nothing like an old childhood friend you used to carry to put a little spring in your step. Cutting apart an apple to snack on just like you did years back.
ReplyDeleteI have a soft spot for Kamp Kings and the like. They were inexpensive camping pattern knives, but oh so useful.
Hi C.W.,
ReplyDeleteI could spend the whole day telling "Old Knife Stories!!"
'Back when I was about 8 or 9 years old I asked my Paternal Grandmother for of all things, a "Pocket knife!!" She dug into an old box and came up with two pocket knives that were my Grandfathers'. She said one was a "Scout knife" I noted the emblem on the side ... It was "well worn" but still functional.... This one was "Special" so I somehow managed to "Save" it to this day along with several other family artifacts!! Grandpa died in '39 and I am thinking this was my cousin's "Scout knife" that Grandpa had...
'When I was in the NAVY (1966-70) I acquired several of those "Kamp King style" stainless steel survival knives!! 'Have only one left and it is "stashed!!" At the "GUN SHOW" noted several for sale by dealers but they were pushing $50!!!!!"
Blue skies!!!!,
skybill
I carry a pocketknife everyday. I feel naked without feeling it in my pocket. Of course, I have one for work and my handy dandy trustworthy model for everyday.
