“With today’s vote, the Council sent a clear message that it is committed to progressive criminal justice reform that dismantles the systemic racial and economic injustice that has only harmed our communities,” said Nassim Moshiree, Policy Director of the ACLU of the District of Columbia. “We once again extend our deepest gratitude to Councilmember Charles Allen for shepherding this bill in the council, to Councilmember Trayon White for introducing it and to all of the Councilmembers who stood firm in their vote.”
Trayon White made headlines earlier this year when he accused Jews of controlling the weather.
The solution is to pay the fare. I suspect these people have been getting free stuff for so long, they've lost the ability to see why there is a fare to ride the train at all.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) that manages the metro system opposes the bill, saying it would cost them millions and leave Metro Transit Police unable to mitigate other types of crime on the subway system.
ATU Local 689, the union that represents transit workers, also opposes the legislation.
“Our union’s membership is made up of more than 80 percent people of color,” they said in a statement. “We are mindful of the disproportionate effect of fare evasion citations, but we do not believe that inviting theft is a reasonable way to resolve this issue. The Council’s bill, as written, encourages more evasion that leads to assaults on bus operators and station managers, and creates greater tension between paying riders and fare evaders.”
Of course it does. Let's encourage chaos and criminality in the furtherance of some soft headed idea of Marxist redefinition of the way society functions.
The Progressive is really regressive. Insanity in charge. Pushing our nation's capitol towards third world status - apparently the people living in that town are already mentally there.
Does this not make one think that the voting franchise is simply too broad? It'll never happen, but some people really shouldn't be given the proverbial keys to the car.

ReplyDeleteOne vote for at least two years of military service. One vote for each home you own on property of at least one-half acre. One vote for each $10,000 of wealth you possess. Under this system people who are invested in society and create wealth have the most voice. Rough, but a starting point.

ReplyDeleteThat may be PART of it, but I am convinced there is also a large element of "I'm gonna get back some of my own" on account of having been cruelly oppressed by systematic oppression for generations. Or so they have been taught by our self-proclaimed betters.
Eternal Victimhood Mentality afflicts more than one group, but in each case society overall pays the price. EVM allows the believer/adherent to justify (to himself at least) all manner of antisocial and plain bad behavior. I can sort of understand (though not approve of) the attitude if a person was personally victimized in the past, but victimhood is NOT genetically transmitted. *I* don't get to run wild because some Manchus, or some Japanese did terrible things to some Han Chinese. Similarly, the average American living today is not personally guilty for what antebellum slavers, or Cossacks, or whoever your bogeyman is, may have done in the past.
Looks like "FREE EVERYTHING" is the rallying cry of the Liberal Democrat plantation owners to their slaves contemplating tossing their chains off and jumping on the Trump train.
