A video shows the dramatic helicopter rescue of two hikers who became trapped within a crevasse on the east side of North Dome in Yosemite National Park.
"Unable to continue down, due to a 2,000-foot vertical drop, and unable to go back the way they came, because of the steep, snow-covered ground, they called 911 from a cell phone," read a statement from the California Highway Patrol Air Operations based in Fresno.
The park's emergency communications center received the call at 6 p.m., and a team of rangers and search-and-rescue personnel attempted to reach them, "but were unable to make contact due to darkness, rain, sleet, and fog, and the technical terrain."
The next morning's attempt was successful with the help of a CHP helicopter and rescue team members who raised the hikers out of the crevasse to a safe, flat location before they were hoisted into the helicopter one at a time.
I hope that the state charges their credit cards. It didn't say that they arrived here illegally from England so they're not "special category people".
ReplyDeleteLet them sit and for on the mountain. I'm tired of my tax dollars spent to rescue assholes that put themselves in harm's way.
ReplyDeleteThey should have to reimburse the state for the rescue as LL said.
ReplyDeleteWell done, CHP.
