December 20, 1965 – After rendezvousing in space, the Gemini 6 and Gemini 7 space capsules meet once again at the Mayport Naval Station near Jacksonville, Florida, after unloading from the USS Wasp.

  2. I think they're reinforcement ribs. And the capsule surface is mainly conic sections not compound curves.

  3. In 1965, the USA could send people into space and return them safely to Earth. Today, we need Russian spacecraft of roughly the same vintage to haul us around. Imagine the reaction if somebody had predicted that in 1965.

  4. I like the picture. It features my bestest friend. My ship recovered one of the Gemini MOL using that wonderful B&A crane that got used on my best and most glorious day on USS LaSalle smashing in the windows of Primary Flight Control in the skilled but inept hands of one of the Bosun's favorite BM2s. I hadn't laughed that hard in my life when that block slammed through the glass as he was restowing the crane on the port mast rest. That crane was responsible for 3 of the 5 times I was written up for MAST.
