And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Charles Nungesser, French WW1 Ace with his medals and his Nieuport 17 plane. He holds the record for the most decorated Croix de Guerre medal, with 28 palms and two stars.
The Nungesser Niewport is now in the collection of the Reinbeck Museum in NY. Back in the mid 80s I had the fortune of seeing it fly for the first time since it was sold by Nungesser to finance L'osieau Blanc, his stab at the Ortieg prize. It is claimed his remains, those of his partner Francois Coli and L'oiseau Blanc are somewhere in the woods around the Machias area of Maine.
In his day there beat the heart of a warrior.
