Apparently all cats, no matter the size, love a box

  1. And kids like boxes as well. I've never seen a small child who couldn't play endlessly with a couple of larger boxes.

  4. Too bad the big cats are so fierce and unpredictable - they'd be great companions, a la The Jungle Book. But they are predators and will always be so. Just had a young lady killed by a lion here in NC at a big cat conservation center - it somehow got into a 'secured' area being cleaned ...

    1. Yep. They put the lion down too. (A male) He got into a secured area she was cleaning, so it obviously was not secure. Why put the lion down. Males typically kill any other animals who stray into their territory. Seems to me, that's what happened here.

  5. Cats are like man in the sense they kill for pleasure. What else does,i don't know? I read somewhere killer whales do also

    1. Klaus, foxes also do, or at least do it without control if enough helpless prey is available. Another thrill killer is the dingo, they will torment and exterminate foxes with great pleasure, or so it seems to we humans.

  6. I think a lot of times it's just a matter of opportunity. If a bobcat gets in your chicken coop kills a dozen birds and runs off with only one or two it may seems senseless but odds are he'll be back to collect more later

  7. momma nature teaches all living creatures that when the gettin is good then be gettin it cause winter is coming and if you don't be gettin then you be gettin hungry. ever seen a squirrel bury nuts? same deal. dogs bury bones. beaver stash tender shoots in deep water for winter feed. bobcats kill and hide the carcass for later when it gets a bit more "tender". I've watched pine martins clean up groups of squirrels and stash them in trees for later in the winter. never know when the next meal will present itself on the dinner plate. humans use freezers and refrigerators and canning.
sad they took the lions genes out of the pool just because the keepers were too lazy to assure they were safe in their job. I put it on them.
