And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? A soldier looks at the wreckage of a French SPAD fighter, erroneously shot down by a British patrol.
But was it truly in error?! Don't forget that the Poms and the Frogs are natural and mortal enemies, thrown together by circumstance, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend, for now." sort of thing. The soldier is an Aussie digger, probably waiting for the photographer to hurry up and piss off, so he can steal a choice souvenir to show his mates back home. It'd make a change from stealing stuff off of the Yanks, often the poor bloody diggers only way of outfitting themselves with decent kit (and great sport, second only to Pommie officer-baiting), name any war in the last century or this.
Fratricide is a very real problem even (especially?) in this day of advanced electronics.
