  3. I can remember the ice deliveries, from the back of a tarp covered truck. The deliveryman would treat the kids with slivers of ice that came from splitting the blocks.

  6. I'll bet you $28.30 you didn't know that back then, ice delivery truck drivers looked for a sign in your window that you wanted ice. If they saw the sign, they'd stop & deliver the ice to keep your icebox going!

    That was an important plot point in two Nancy Drew Detective movies from 1939 (all four of which I highly recommend! They're on YouTube, and very enjoyable.)
