And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Dad had a '64 J-300 that was the fishing and camping vehicle - a slide in camper not too much different from what you are showing. I remember him standing inside the engine compartment changing the plugs when I was a kid. Is was the 6 cylinder, granny-gear 4 speed 4x4. Very spartan but it could go anywhere you wanted to go but don't expect any high speeds. Dad was also a gear-head and always complained that he should have gotten the V-8.
He kept that truck for about 10 years until he retired and bought a farm - I was 14. The Jeep could barely pull the hay wagons out of the field in low 4x4 in granny-first and is was a slow process. He traded the Jeep for a '75 F-250 4x4 4-speed with a 460 in it. I took my driving test in the F-250.
Those had the left hand lug nuts on one side. We almost got one, it had about half the lugs broken on that side. You could almost play basket ball in the cab. YMMV, old memories.....

Wish I had one!
ReplyDeleteAnd as aerodynamic as a concave brick.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered why it took RV designers / manufacturers so long to implement aerodynamics into their designs.
It's not like it's rocket science! Well, actually it kind of is.
When gas was like $0.25/gal it really didn't seem to matter much, especially for "working" vehicles.
DeleteNobody got a truck like that to cruise all day on the interstate going 80, like SUVs do today.
Jeep is coming out with a pick-up again in 2019. Back to the Future.
