Ready to go

  1. I'm sure that you are always on the hustle for business to keep the aircraft maintained, you're fighting the weather, etc. BUT living in Sitka (ocean doesn't freeze) and flying a float plane for a living still sounds very appealing.

    1. It does, but you'd have to make money. I hear bush pilots struggle with that.

    2. And you have to make it all in the short summer and fall- tourists, hikers, fishermen, hunters.
That looks like a DH Otter on floats, but the TBO on a Beaver's PW 985 is about 1600 hours IIRC, and a rebuild with prop overall about 100-125K. It has been awhile, but I think the operating costs were close to 450 per hour.

  2. Over at Vanderleuen's American Digest I found the ultimate in flying boats:

Their time has passed, so I'll never be able to journey in one of those flying palaces; but I'll always wish that I could! (I've heard wonderful things about travelling via zeppelin, too.)
