And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
That looks like the main drive gear for a ship. The turbine is on the shaft with the small gear, and the shaft with the big gear is drives the screw. The worker is honing the teeth to make sure the gears mate without any vibration.
Never having worked on gearbox components this large I would agree with other two posters. All I can say is deburring gears with a file is about as monontous as it gets. The biggest I have ever worked on were 1/4 this size.
The UK police took that man with his potential murder weapon away, and he'll be behind bars for a long time. Now that file has been disposed of safely, and he won't be able to terrorize London with it ever again!

ReplyDeleteI agree with Steve. Double helical, double reduction, locked train ship's main propulsion reduction gear.
ReplyDeleteYep, Main Reduction Gears, for a Carrier?

Don't worry, it's safe now!

Nice Eskyman! I never thought of that.
DeleteI would love to see the machinery that made those gears.
