And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Fairly slow. Around 1.7 Mach, I'd say, given that airliners travel about .85 each. It's a bit more exciting when it gets above 2.5 and you're passing close aboard.
A couple of times coming back from Europe I spied other airliners at the 5 O'clock with a vertical & horizontal separation of 3 thousand feet. Flying a B-747-200 we overtook a B-757 like it was standing still.
People don't realize how fast the 747s are. They are designed with that pinch in the fuselage to increase the cruising speed. No, I don't know the physics and crap behind it, I just know.

ReplyDeleteStill....a pretty cool GIF.

ReplyDeleteToo cool.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy seeing other aircraft when I'm flying. Provided of course that proper separation is maintained. Otherwise things get a bit too exciting.
Steve, it's called area rule, look it up.
ReplyDeleteB-747 is still the champ. piss on Airbus with the crash-o-matic autopilot system. Bigger is still better, ask any stewardess.
