And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Fall is gun buying season, and I'm thinking of a 6.5x55 Swede barrel for the Encore.
I got some spare scopes, I'll do an experiment with those first, and see, as that way I don't have to spend any more money. I'm planning to try some reloading with this round. A good rainy day pastime.
It's pretty close to what I had in mind, but the kicker was that Midway was closing out the last of a one time buy at $150 off per copy (!). They also had some blemished ones in stock.
You might consider this scope or something similar. I find it's overlapping capabilities growing on me. It is a true one power, so I can use it with both eyes open. The illuminated reticle is simple and un-cluttered (like a red dot). The 6X zoom gives it good range, although probably not quite enough for 500+ yards with the Swede.
Random thot--When I read a review of an optic like the one above that has the reticle etched on the lens, and the reviewer says that the illuminated part can't be seen in bright sunlight, I find myself asking--if it's bright sun light, why would you need it turned on in the first place?
The Swede is a great cartridge - I've owned several of the over the years. Good for everything from our little coastal deer right on up to moose, of which I have taken a couple with the cartridge.
Very efficient round with mild recoil. Great choice.
See if you can find any archived columns by Bob Milek, they might steer you in the right direction.
I handled a M39 Swede carbine w/ turned-down bolt at my LGS and was quite impressed with the quality. But I was shopping for an M1 carbine and scored a nice RockOla instead, couldn't afford both. Since then prices have quadrupled.
6.5 Swede is a delightful round and has decent reach. Sure you don't want something with some magnification?
ReplyDeleteI agree with RHT. The red dot is ok for point shooting, but you can hit targets at 500M+ with that rifle. I'd suggest a scope

DeleteI also agree with RHT and LL. You really need a scope to reach out and touch someone or something with that sweetie Swede...........
DeleteSome more thots. I am currently in the process of building (another) AR-15. I am going to try out this scope--

Thanks for the recommendation!
DeleteRed dots need batteries. Scopes don't. Just when you need it most which might let you down?
