Yeah, I have been involved with dropping several hundred of these, thus my handle. While flying down to an exercise in Puerto Rico the pilot spotted a pod of whales. We dropped a bouy and had an hours worth of fascinating sounds in our headsets. Miss those days.
I was riding (supercargo) in a P-3C once when it dropped sonobuoys. That's as close as I got to it, but it was interesting.
What kind of bouy is this? It looks a little more complex than the LOFAR, DIFAR and DICASS bouys I was associated with as an IFT in Big Red.
