DeleteI recall one of the little USFS guard stations there perhaps on the Stanislaus that had one of those with a water tank and pumper unit on it. It could go most anyplace, just not fast. Winch or no, you did NOT want to get it stuck. Legend has it that it was taken out by a Pinto (a Ford that is). The Pinto broadsided it at an intersection on the forward quarter doing about 60 and took the whole front axle out from under it. From that point on, everybody in it was just a passenger. I hear tell it was a rough ride from there to the scene of the accident.
