Great, great grandfather to the lion killing dentist.

Hunting Puffins in the Faroe Islands. Smoked puffin breast is a traditional North Atlantic delicacy and puffins are harvested in the summer months. Photo c. 1900.

  1. Obviously the warning about people carrying
big sticks hasn't made it to the islands...

  2. Hmmmm, maybe that explains why I didn't see any puffins at the Cliffs of Moher?

    2. Yeah... and August isn't a good month to go there anyway because that's where everyone in Europe who doesn't speak English or Irish goes on holiday. ;-)

  3. I don't think the dentist had roasted lion. Killing for food is necessary. Killing for self defense I understand. Killing for ego is something else.

  4. I have never eaten smoked puffin. I will remedy that the next time I'm in town.

  5. Trophy hunting supported Africa for years and still continues to fund areas that would be ignored by the West. There is nothing wrong with trophy hunting.

Saying that trophy hunting is wrong because you don't eat the animal is the same as saying that motorcycles are dangerous and unnecessary or that people who can afford Lamborghinis should take the bus since that car only supports their ego. If you don't like motorcycles, don't get after those who do. If you don't want to trophy hunt, that's OK, but don't get after those who do. Stop being a nanny.
