Hungarian language and its two closest relatives: Khanty and Mansi

  8. The info I received 50yrs ago in my UT Linguistics course, was that Hungarian was closely related to Finnish and Turkish and not part of the Proto-Indo-European family of languages at all…

    1. Hungarian (Magyar) is an Uralic language, as is Finnish. Turkic is not a related language, although there are some loan words due to, shall we say, forced proximity in the past.
