And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

The Ark of Bukhara, a fortress located in Uzbekistan, built 1,500 years ago.
What? Timur or Genghis Khan or somebody like that never rolled up to that city, besieged it trebuchets, and reduced those walls to rubble? The city fathers must have always capitulated quickly to whatever warlord approached.
Oops. Typed too fast, shoulda looked up the history first. All the warlords busted up the joint, all the way to the Bolsheviks in 1920. What we see is a modern reconstruction. The Ark was rebuilt many times
