Steep. One slip and you'd tumble faster and faster right to the bottom, ending up as nothing more than a pile of jelly.

  2. I fell skiing down the face of a glacier (or whatever you call that) at Val d’Isére, France. It wasn’t as big as that picture, but it was pretty steep. I figured if I tumbled I would break some bones so I rigidly held out my arms and legs so I would stay flat. It worked. I just slid along at a fairly slow speed until I reached the bottom and just stopped. My skiing companions said I looked like a big white comet with all the snow my arms and legs kicked up.

    One ski detached but it just followed me down.
