And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Far Northern Hemisphere - probably Iceland or Norway
I am almost finished with the NETFLIX series "The Vikings." I have never been to either Greenland or Iceland so seeing Iceland depicted as a baren volcanic island was interesting.
During the “Age of the Vikings” - 850-1250 AD the earth was a lot warmer and both Greenland and Iceland were not as cold and intemperate which resulted in the Vikings expanding their settlements and influence..
Oh My Gawd!!! You mean there was "global warming" back in the ancient times of our planet? And the world did not come to an end back then as it most likely not come to an end this time.
I worked in Hall Beach Nunavut, two degrees above the Arctic Circle, during July-August in 1988. Your body clock gets all out of whack, I would be unable to fall asleep for two or three nights then I would collapse for 10-12hrs and the cycle would repeat. At 2am you walk out of the bar and the sun hits you right in the eyes and children are riding their bicycles. The converse is that in December, you get onto the ramp at 6am under the northern lights, sunrise is about 9am, at 4pm you're watching the northern lights again and the days high temperature was -25F. That is above the arctic circle as the sun never sets.

ReplyDeleteFilmed mid-summer in the Canadian tundra. Clip taken from episode 1 ("Pole to Pole") of David Attenborough's "Planet Earth" series.

Welcome to my world north of 64 degrees latitude. That’s just another summer day!
ReplyDeleteLand of the midnight sun.
ReplyDeleteDoes the same below the antarctic circle except the sun appears to move the other direction, being to the north at noon instead of south.
ReplyDeleteThere is a house outside Reykjavik
ReplyDeleteAnd they call it the Never-Setting Sun
It's been the ruin of many a poor boy, and God, I know, I'm one.
