And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? Angry Old Veteran vs. 700 Redcoats - Samuel Whittemore - Language warning
The lobsterbacks didn't stand a chance against guerilla warfare, they stood out in the open in nice straight lines. American sharpshooters had honed their skills with the penny bounty on squirrels.
Paul Revere would not have yelled, "The British are coming!", which would be confusing or amusing, because everybody in America were British citizens, and as good citizens of Great Britain, all the American colonists ever really wanted was not secession, but to have the same rights and privileges as every other Englishmen, so Paul Revere and the other riders would probably have yelled, "The Regulars are coming to seize our arsenal!", or maybe, "The Redcoats are coming!"
