And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

For those who don't like newfangled, here's the classic. I use both kinds, and they both work well. This one has the advantage that if need arises, it's also a club.
I have one of those but never use it. I prefer smaller flashlights, but the palm-sized ones only seem to have the push-button in the back end or they require that I twist the bulb-bell to turn them on. Does anyone make small flashlights with ON switches on the side? Much more convenient IMO.
Take a look at Streamlight's offerings. Mine (a Streamlight Stinger) has both side and tail switches. It's also bright enough to almost give you a tan.
I have one of those monsters and replaced the bulb with an LED bought at one of the box home improvement stores. It works gooder than the original for sure -Snakepit
I have two three-cell lights that have been with us for decades. I keep one in my truck. Yeah, they make a good club, and you can focus the beam. I upgraded them with these--
For the one in my truck, the original plastic lens was fine, so I kept it. In the reviews, some folks had issues with the glass cracking. My take it that they over tightened the face cap when they re-assembled.
I spent almost 30 years in public safety. I've had pelicans, 511's, stingers and numerous other lights that were all rechargeable. The rechargeable were never worth the cost and battery life was always an issue. The intensity of the LED mag light matches or exceeds any of the rechargeable lights and D batteries are relatively inexpensive. The bonus for the mag lights are the replaceable parts. Best lights ever made.
Back in the bad old days, around1969, this design was invented and marketed to Law Enforcement by a fellow named Keller, and they were called "Kel-Lights", and I, over a few years, purchased several...Club? Huhh, never thought of that....
I've had a 6 D cell since the 1980s I have converted it to a LED bulb it resides beneath my truck seat ready to shed illumination , or if need be to enlighten the foolish
It's not that I don't like newfangled, it's that I prefer old skool. I've had 4 D cell Mag Lites forever, including on a clip in my logging truck back in the '80s.
I reckon one reason I like this light is because I tend to lose little things like jackknifes, keys, wedding rings and $90 flashlights that can start fires.
Yup, have several, only upgrade was to put in a compatible LED high power light source, thing has been running over 4 years of intermittent use without battery change so far (yes, I check them once a year for leaks).
don't buy Duracells, they moved the production to China and they leak. They leak while they are still suppling power. Never had a battery leak that was still suppling spec power. And the leakage is bad, lost many electronic devices to the damage. I noticed Duracells are now showing up included with new electronic devices instead of the no-name brands that I used to see. I toss them immediately.
John is most correct. Duracell batteries WILL ruin your devices! I was in Costco last Friday and the display of Duracell C-cells were already leaking inside the blister packs!!!
Have a box full of old Mag lights of all different sizes. Bought a Streamlight dual switch high lumen Stinger 6 years ago and since then have bought 2 more for around the house, shop and truck. You can leave them on the charger continuously and have just now bought a battery for the oldest one. Last flashlight you'll ever buy. bought 2 more for
I used to have several mag lites of all sizes back in the day. They all but one have failed, for the same reason. Leaking batteries and seized themselves inside the flashlight.
A friend gave me the Mag Light rechargeable back in 1990, still have it. Does make a good club!

ReplyDeleteTail-cap buttons are more popular with the tactical crowd. Fenix and Olight have some with side buttons.
DeleteO-light makes several models with side switches. Good quality lights:

ReplyDeleteKel-Lites per-dated them and were better (IMHO), but alas no longer made.

ReplyDeleteStill have mine, still works for both purposes.

ReplyDeleteYes Duracell has become a disappointment. Have been using multi-pack RayOVac, so far so good. 🤞🏻
