  1. I remember them being much hotter than they are today, taste buds dying off or did they make them more palatable for the more sensitive generation?

    1. That's the way I recall them, also. Like other good things ruined, lower the bar to increase volume.

  3. First made in 1954. Sometimes you would get a “weak” one, then you would find one almost too hot to hold.

  4. First time I tried to buy a dime's worth, they said 11 cents. I could not figure out what tax was, I didn't want any little nails. So I put one back for lack of the extra penny, and he said, 9 cents. I was really confused. Once I figured it out. I bought 9 pieces or less every time. Even if I had a quarter, I only bought 9 of this.... oh yeah.... 9 of that..... and I almost forgot 7 of those.... hehehehehe..... I was just doing my civic duty of not wasting money.

  7. Yeah but back in the day, the first 45 seconds or so on one of those fackers brought tears to your eyes.
I remember feeling like I'd almost done something remarkable keeping one in my mouth until that hot coating was gone and the white jawbreaker was all that was left.

  8. Penny candies. Bit-O-Honey and Mary Janes were good too, it would take at least 5 minutes to chew one down. Jawbreakers were a nickel.

    1. Loved the penny Bit-O-Honey. Also penny licorice and the gummy/fruit leather sour apple, mixed lemon & lime, and watermelon.
