And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
You are correct Anonymous. There is a pin in the center of the cross beam, but it's used as a guide to align the male fitting on the car with the female piece on the cross beam and is not structural. The lip on the cross beam is only about an inch high but the car is heavy enough so that it doesn't jump out in normal use.
That truck driver was obviously trying to stop on what appears to be an icy road, but I have to wonder if at some point, prior to where this video begins, braking should have been abandoned in favor of max acceleration. Worry about stopping later when there aren't 2 speeding trains in the equation.
Guy goes searching for his buddy, the driver. Finds an arm, then a leg, then spots a head bouncing down the tracks. Catches up and says "Joe! Joe! You hurt?".
I responded to an incident where a kid on a 10 speed tried to beat THE EMPIRE BUILDER at a crossing. A fireman found the kids head a mile down the tracks, the rest of him was splattered across the front of the locomotive.
Lived through the First hit. Wouldn't bet on the second punch being survivable

ReplyDeleteInteresting that the wheel assemblies just fell off, as if they weren't bolted to the frame.
ReplyDeleteI believe the weight of the railroad car holds the trucks to the car. No bolts needed.

Deleteaye. locomotives have a smallish bolted flange- you "cut the trucks" to lift the body off of the trucks

ReplyDeleteLooks like pretty open country too, surprised he didn't have enough reaction time, even with the road conditions.
ReplyDeleteRussian Railways (RZD - looks like psd or p/d to Western eyes), so Vodka may be the lubricant involved.
ReplyDeleteRZD and vehicles seem to have a lot of unfavorable interactions - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0-msCUd7SI
