And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The Philippines were a US territory and the people there deserved the effort more so than any other area in the neighborhood. They identified with Sam and knew we wouldn’t turn our backs. Many of them died fighting the Japanese
His ego got a lot of men killed. He failed to execute the war plan after the Pearl Harbor attacks, unnecessarily antagonized the Australians, forced the militarily-useless invasion of the Philippines, got surprised by both the North Koreans and then the Chinese, then got fired for insubordination.
There is a story of his 2cd in command at Corrigidor that he left holding the bag while he ran away. He had taken the American flag over his post when it fell and sewed it into his jacket liner. After the many months of being a prisoner and witnessing first hand the Bataan death march, they say he walked into the general's office laid Old Glory on his desk, stepped back saluted, and said I have done YOUR duty Sir! With that done and not even waiting for MacArthur to answer he turned on his heels and marched out!
MacArthur led the attack on WWI vets in D.C. who just wanted what they were promised after that war. Disgraceful stain on America. Just like todays a**holes forcing the vax down everyones throats.
Another nottafan of MacArthur for all of the reasons stated above and more. If you are going be a general and an asshole, at least be a good general, cough cough, Patton, cough..
